Paul Weiner is a contemporary American artist known for his project-based, interdisciplinary approach to art, often centered around themes of violence, politics, and cultural symbolism. Born in 1993 in Aurora, Colorado, he received his BFA in Painting from Syracuse University in 2015. Weiner's work frequently addresses the American psyche and societal issues, using traditional symbols of American exceptionalism to express themes of danger, shame, and frustration.
One of his notable series revolves around the 2012 Aurora theater shooting, which deeply impacted his hometown. This series includes paintings that incorporate direct transcriptions of significant legal documents, often with redacted sections, reflecting on the trauma and censorship associated with the event.
